This Martin D-42 Standard from 2021 — also searched as Martin D42, Martin D 42, used Martin D-42, second-hand Martin D42, or Martin Style 42 dreadnought — is a premium rosewood dreadnought combining powerful projection, rich overtones and elegant pearl appointments.

Built with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, the D-42 delivers a deep, complex bass response, rich harmonic content, clear trebles and excellent sustain. It has the full, refined voice expected from Martin’s higher-end dreadnought range, with plenty of headroom for strumming and flatpicking while remaining responsive enough for lighter playing.

A key feature of the D-42 is its forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing, which gives the top a more open and responsive character than a standard D-28. This contributes to the guitar’s strong projection, broad dynamic range and rich, resonant low end.

The guitar features premium Style 42 appointments including abalone pearl top inlay and rosette, snowflake-style fingerboard inlays, grained ivoroid binding, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and gold open-gear tuners. The result is an instrument that looks as refined as it sounds.

This example is fitted with a K&K Pure Mini pickup, a highly regarded passive bridge-plate transducer system known for its natural amplified tone and simple, unobtrusive design. It is an excellent choice for live use with an acoustic amp, DI or external preamp.
