This Martin D-42 from 2004 — also searched as Martin D42, Martin D 42, used Martin D-42, second-hand Martin D42, or Martin Style 42 dreadnought — is a beautifully matured example of one of Martin’s premium rosewood dreadnoughts.

Built with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, the D-42 delivers the deep bass, rich overtones, clear trebles and strong projection associated with Martin’s higher-end dreadnoughts. After more than two decades, this example has developed a particularly mature, open sound with excellent resonance and character.

One of the most attractive aspects of this guitar is how beautifully it has aged. The top has developed a rich, warm vintage color, giving the instrument a much more mature appearance than a newer guitar. Together with the natural weather checking and light playing wear, it has the look and feel of a well-loved older Martin.

The D-42 features forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing, helping produce a lively, responsive voice with strong projection and dynamic range. Premium Style 42 appointments include abalone pearl top inlay and rosette, snowflake-style fingerboard inlays, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and gold hardware.

This example is fitted with an LR Baggs iBeam pickup, providing a natural amplified sound while keeping the installation discreet and preserving the traditional appearance of the guitar.

This 2004 Martin D-42 is in very good condition. It shows weather checking, small scratches and a few small dents from normal use, all consistent with its age. These signs of use contribute to the guitar’s beautifully matured character.
