Atkin White Rice WR-A (2020) – Aged Rosewood Dreadnought – Excellent Condition
The Atkin White Rice WR-A is a tribute to one of the most famous acoustic guitars in bluegrass history: the 1935 Martin D-28 first owned by Clarence White and later played by Tony Rice. That's where the name White Rice comes from. Built in 2020, this Atkin WR-A captures the spirit of that legendary instrument, including its two most recognisable features: the enlarged soundhole and the fingerboard extension overhanging it.
The guitar is built with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid Indian rosewood back and sides, with scalloped X-bracing. The oversized soundhole lets more air move in and out of the body, giving the Atkin White Rice enormous power, volume and an open, booming voice. Expect deep, powerful bass, rich mids, clear trebles and outstanding projection: a true cannon of a dreadnought.
This used Atkin dreadnought is ideal for bluegrass, flatpicking, folk and Americana. It is equally impressive for driving rhythm, crosspicked lines and strong lead playing, and it records beautifully in the studio.
The mahogany neck has a comfortable C profile, 43.5 mm nut width and 25.4" scale, giving a classic dreadnought feel with plenty of punch.
Atkin's renowned aged nitro finish gives the guitar a genuine vintage look and feel. Appointments include:
- herringbone top purfling and a multi-line rosette
- ivoroid binding on the body and neck
- a Dalmatian-style pickguard
- an ebony fingerboard and bridge
- a rosewood headstock overlay
- aged Gotoh open-gear tuners
This second-hand Atkin WR-A is in very good condition. Light marks here and there blend naturally into the aged finish and add to its character. Despite its young age, this guitar already has a true vintage soul. It comes with a TKL hardshell case.
